One of our latest commissions: a set of George III chairs and carvers. One of our past patrons approached us to explore the possibility of making a set of chairs and carvers for his home in North Yorkshire. The design was originally to be based on a set of chairs which can be found in a church in Hertfordshire but was subsequently deemed inappropriate or, more so, too severe.
With the help of Francis Johnson Architects in Scarborough, a new design was discovered in the June 2011 issue of Country Life. This new design, much more refined and elegant, had the advantage of having an hexagonal back which mirrored that of our client's dining room's ceiling. The original, pictured here, can be found at Ronald Philips Antiques, 26 Bruton Street, London W1J 6QL and who must be commended for their kindness since they allowed us in their showroom so measurements and photographs could be taken.
Production has started and we are now getting to the stage where carving will get under way.
More to follow as work progresses.
